Croatia For History Lovers
For cyclists interested in delving deeper into Croatia’s history, its varied historical sites—which range from medieval architecture and ruins to Venetian and Ottoman influences—offer an enthralling trip across time.
Starting in Split, home of the Unesco-listed Diocletian’s Palace—a Roman imperial residence transformed into a city within a city—you will cycle Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast before boarding a ferry to Stari Grad on Hvar Island. Enjoy a pleasant round-trip ride along former Roman roads and a strenuous climb up to a vantage point with views of the island of Brac. As you descend, you’ll see the main town of the island, which is home to several historical landmarks, such as the Gothic Rector’s Palace, the 16th-century Cathedral of St. Stephen, and the bustling main square of the town, which is home to the Arsenal, a 13th-century naval warehouse and shipyard.
Moving on, we will visit Korčula, whose main town is frequently regarded as one of the Mediterranean’s best-preserved medieval towns. Korčula was founded in the 12th century and has been influenced by many different civilizations, such as the Ottoman Empire, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and Venetian. Due to its advantageous location, it served as a major hub for maritime and trade activities. Furthermore, the well-known Venetian explorer and trader Marco Polo is among the most noteworthy historical personalities connected to Korčula. Marco Polo is said to have been born in Korčula in 1254, though this is a matter of some debate. You might even spot the town’s well-known tourist destination, the supposed home of Marco Polo. Your journey comes to an end in Dubrovnik, the “Pearl of the Adriatic,” following more island hopping and a free day in Lumbarda).
Africa For Adventure Lovers
The wide-ranging and varied landscapes of Namibia provide adventure seekers with a singular playground and daring cyclists with an almost infinite supply of surreal backdrops. Namibia beckons with its untouched beauty, from the towering red dunes and bizarre petrified forests surrounding the Sossusvlei area in the Namib Desert to the salt pans, savannah, and waterholes in Etosha National Park. On our Cycle Namibia trip, you get to cycle along the sand dunes and enjoy game drives across Etosha in search of elephants, rhinos, and lions.
Using a modified fat bike, you’ll be exploring these demanding yet rewarding terrains for 1.5 days during this adventure. Bicyclists can traverse the sloping dunes with relative ease thanks to the fat tires’ stability on the shifting sand. Because fat biking gives you so much freedom, you can also cover long distances. On days five and six, you can take an exhilarating ride across the dunes surrounding Swakopmund and cycle through the Namib-Naukluft Desert in the morning. Additionally, you can combine your cycling experience with a delectable braai (barbecue) under the starry African sky during this trip.
Jordan For Culture Lovers
Jordan is the ideal destination for a cultural cycling vacation because it offers an exquisite blend of history, customs, and archaeological wonders. Uncovering the architectural magnificence of the Nabataean civilization, the rose-red city of Petra, a Unesco World Heritage Site, features intricately carved facades and ancient tombs. On the other hand, Jerash, a well-preserved Roman city, features theaters inside its walls, an oval forum, and grand colonnaded streets. When you join us for our Petra and Wadi Rum By Bike trip, you get to see both of these locations in addition to admiring the breathtaking desert scenery.
Incredible locations like the South Theatre in Jerash and the Madaba Mosaic Map in the Saint George Church demonstrate Jordan’s dedication to maintaining its cultural legacy, but there’s also value in getting a firsthand look at their way of life. For this reason, on day seven, while you’re desert camping in one of their goat-hair tents, you’ll get to enjoy the best of Bedouin hospitality with a traditional Zarb meal and sweet tea or coffee.
In the captivating Wadi Rum desert, enjoying a traditional Bedouin meal is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Together with your hosts, you and your group will gather in a Bedouin-style tent decorated with vibrant carpets and cushions as the sun sets over the striking red sandstone formations. Before the feast, the air will carry the aroma of freshly brewed Arabic coffee. You might enjoy regional specialties like Zarb, a succulent barbecue prepared in a subterranean sand oven, or Mansaf, a flavorful lamb stew served with rice and yoghurt. Sharing this traditional meal with your group and the local Bedouin nomads under the vast desert sky will surely leave a lasting impression on your memory for years to come.
Italy For Food Lovers
Sardinia, endowed with turquoise coves, shimmering white sands, and historic ruins, is an incredible destination to discover while cycling. Additionally, during our Cycling in Sardinia trip, you will cycle through some of the most important areas along the southwest coast, such as the Costa Verde, the Punic archaeological ruins, the Roman city of Tharros, and the Sinis Wetlands, where pink flamingos abound in the lagoons. Finally, your route will veer to visit the Pranu Sartu abandoned mines. The coastal road you take will take you past vibrant local food markets and the charming fishing villages of Marceddi and Carloforte, where you can sample local fare and take in the island’s culinary delights, in addition to the breathtaking scenery and intriguing historical landmarks.
Unquestionably, Sardinia, a small Mediterranean island, has a unique culinary identity. Furthermore, because of the region’s turbulent past, some of Sardinia’s staple dishes have elements of Arabic, Spanish, Greek, Egyptian, and Roman cuisine. Local cuisine features “Porceddu,” roasted baby pigs seasoned with regional herbs. For seafood enthusiasts, Sardinian bottarga, akin to “Sardinian caviar,” offers a distinctive, salty flavor when grated over pasta. When visiting the nearby fishing villages, other delicacies to try are Cassola, a traditional Sardinian fish soup prepared with a variety of fish and shellfish and seasoned with tomatoes, saffron, and local herbs, and Fregola con Arselle, which is Sardinian pasta with small clams.
