A Family Vacation in Vietnam

Jamie Nield left on our Vietnam family vacation, Chopsticks & Coconuts, last year in order to spend some quality time with his eight-year-old daughter Freya.

1. Hoi An

A Family Vacation in Vietnam

Every building in this ancient port city has something fascinating to offer, making it a veritable gold mine. The houses were unlike anything we had ever seen; they had enormous interiors in the colonial Chinese style with exteriors painted in yellow and terracotta.

The sun bathed the streets in gold at sunset, and at night, a plethora of multicolored lamps astonished us.

2. Halong Bay

A Family Vacation in Vietnam

It was an exhilarating boat journey as the towering peaks clothed with Jurassic plants grew larger. It wouldn’t look out of place on a movie set if there were a few grazing dinosaurs there. The children kayaked at night and swam in the beautiful, warm sea during the day. Additionally, the boat’s service was excellent.

3. Mekong Delta Homestay

“The kids helped prepare the evening meal, and the family was very welcoming.” Water tributaries on the modest but picturesque property fed the garden crops. It beats the grocery when fish find their way up the ditches and are selected by the owners for our dinner!

4. The Food

“Bánh xèo blew my mind the first time I tried it; it was like having all the flavors of Asia in one pancake.” transitioning to another culinary delight, it’s a relief that the cook didn’t disappear! Delicious summer rolls feature pork, fish, or beef blended with aromatic herbs and veggies, wrapped in glass noodles, and served with dipping sauce.

5. Our Guide

For our satisfaction, he went above and above. nothing was too much for him, despite his tremendous effort. He was a huge help on the trip since he would sit the kids all together at mealtime, take their orders, and personally note what each child liked and didn’t like.
