Since it was first erected, the “Gujarat’s Tribute to the Nation” Statue of Unity in the Kevadia District of Gujarat, India, has grown in popularity throughout the world. The statue, which honors Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the country’s first home minister, took almost three and a half years to construct, involving 300 engineers from Larsen & Toubro. Prime Minister Narendra Modiji erected the statue as a memorial to Patel’s vision, bravery, delicacy, and practical political stature in establishing “EK Bharat”. On October 31, 2018, Patel’s 143rd birthday, the statue was unveiled, symbolizing an important turning point in Indian history.

Why Visit the Statue of Unity (SOU)?

Standing at eighty-two meters, twice the height of the Statue of Liberty in New York, the Statue of Unity (SOU) is the tallest statue in the world. Moreover, it surpasses numerous other notable tall monuments in Brazil, China, Russia, Japan, and the United States. Its height also corresponds to the entire number of democratic seats in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly.

This is precisely why millions of travelers, including myself, mark the Kevadia area on Google Maps each year. Furthermore, they come from all over the world to witness the tallest statue in the world up close!

It makes sense, then, that the construction of this amazing statue required 250 engineers, 3,400 workers, 70,000 tons of cement, 18,500 tons of reinforcement steel bars, 6,000 tons of structural steel, and 1,700 metric tons of bronze.

And believe me when I say that witnessing this masterpiece with your own eyes is a magnificent experience that will leave you wanting more—what you see in the media can never, ever match the true thrill of seeing the marvel in person!

To Fill Your Heart With Pride and Honor.

The statue’s size is unquestionably one of the main draws here, but it offers so much more!

What really impressed me, after I looked past the statue’s dimensions and grandeur, was its intensity. Indeed, the man’s intensity, his character, his determination, his intelligence, his sacrifices, and all of his difficulties in bringing a nation the size of India together were truly remarkable. Moreover, the amazement and admiration it inspires are overwhelming! The monument practically comes to life during the nighttime laser show when it doubles as a projection screen projecting a million lights dancing and reproducing the complete life path of the man!

To Be A Part of Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat.

If “Ek Bharat” was the vision of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, then “Shreshta Bharat” is an addition made by SOU.

The most important issue that unites the entire community of Ekta Nagar in Kevadia, in my opinion, is the preservation of nature and habitat in the face of technological growth.

Therefore, what I observed were sights like the Valley of Flowers, Vishwa Van, Jungle Safari, Aarogya Van, and so on, accompanied by a sky-piercing monument and the Vindhyachal and Satpura mountain ranges, with the much-loved Mother River Narmada gently holding everything together.

It is truly something to be admired and treasured. Moreover, it is most definitely something you have to experience for yourself to fully appreciate how everything is interconnected in the spirit of nature.

Taking the Ekta Cruise Ferry Ride across the Narmada River at dusk, at 5 PM, was one of my favorite activities during our SOU vacation. Other Attractions in the SOU:

Additional attractions on the SOU campus, such as Ekta Nursery, the Cactus and Butterfly Garden, Children Nutrition Park, and Aarogya Van, need supplementary admission.

No matter what kind of ticket you purchase, personal automobiles are not permitted in SOU, which is India’s first pollution-free zone restricted to e-vehicles. instead, you must use one of the shuttle buses or rent an e-rickshaw to get around.

With its convenient bus and rickshaw services, you may quickly cover a lot of ground inside SOU. additionally, if you enjoy walking and are prepared for a little workout, the campus is spread out over 18 kilometers, offering ample opportunities for exploration on foot.

In the event that you are staying at Narmada Tent City, you must park all of your cars there. Buses leave from parking lot 1 often, every 5 to 15 minutes. at any of the attractions, you can get on and off. in addition to being a very practical mode of transportation, e-rickshaws promote the employment of women.

Parking Fees: Rs. 50 per vehicle

In the near future, self-rental e-scooters and e-bikes would be fantastic.

All of the other attractions, including the Statue of Unity, have online ticketing available.

Do you plan to visit the Gujarati Statue of Unity?, I would advise you to stay in one of the two tent towns, Narmada Tent City 1 or Narmada Tent City 2, which are situated directly on the riverbank. although Tent City 1 is more costly, both tent cities are luxurious, fully air-conditioned, and furnished with all the amenities of the present day.

I had an amazing time staying at Narmada Tent City – 2! After a long day outside, it was quite soothing to return to the warm and comfortable tents. moreover, the comfort aspect was increased by the somewhat warmer lighting. Additionally, I really liked how the bathroom was organized, with separate areas for the toilet, sink, and bathtub.

The Tent City boasted an enormous dining hall that provided freshly prepared hot meals for breakfast, noon, and dinner. above all, the food was delicious and healthful, with a minimalist aesthetic. The last sweets were the cherry on top, perfectly balancing the main course!

What is the Best Time to Visit SOU?

The best time to see this marvel is between October and February when the weather is better suitable for strolling and exploring because Gujarat’s summers may be extremely scorching. that being stated, SOU is open every day of the year except for Mondays.

The Statue of Unity is situated approximately 3.5 kilometers from the small Gujarati village of Kevadiya, also known as Ekta Nagar. rajpipla, which is 25 kilometers away, is the closest city.

  • Ahmedabad to Statue of unity = 200 Km
  • Vadodara to Statue of unity = 100 Km
  • Surat to Statue of unity = 160 Km
  • Bharuch to Statue of unity = 100 Km

Vadodara is home to the closest airport and train station.

As an alternative, Ahmedabad, which is farther away from Vadodara but has a significant train station and airport, can also be used to travel to the SOU. The Ahmedabad-Kevadia Jan Shatabdi Special Express train is another option available to you. It consists of an excellent Vistadome coach with broad window panes, a glass rooftop, rotatable 180-degree seats, and AC chair car Executive Class, in addition to non-AC chair car and AC chair car coaches.

If you enjoy taking road trips, you can go through the Gujarati towns and villages of Nadiad, Godhra, Vadodara, Dhavoi, Rajpipla, and Bharuch in order to get to the statue.

You may travel 4 hours by car from Mumbai to Ahmedabad via the national highway, which is how I got there after landing. alternatively, you can also opt for a train journey, offering a scenic route and comfortable travel experience.

You can rent a local car to get to the statue from Kevadia, which is the closest bus stop.

All days of the year, excluding Mondays, are when SOU is open.

During my 2N/3D stay at SOU, I felt it sufficient to cover the majority of the locations. To fully explore the area, though, I believe three nights would have been more practical given the quantity of attractions.

There are day tours to SOU as well, but I would strongly advise against it because there is just too much beauty in SOU to see in a single day.
