The oil mill was built in 1755 by Pedro de Peñalver y Castroverde, a nobleman from Zahara and member of the Real Maestranza de Caballería de Ronda. It was his predecessor, Pedro de Peñalver y Balcárcel who, in 1640, first milled olives here and who started to plant the area with olive trees as a substitute for the existing grape vines. Even today, odd vine can be found between the olive trees and some olive groves still bear names such as “Las Viñas Viejas” (the old vineyards) and “El Puerto de las Viñas” (the vine port).
