The most important and regal celebration in Karnataka is Mysore Dasara, claims the Karnataka Department of Tourism. In Mysore, it is observed as a 10-day festival with the first nine nights known as Navratri and the final day being Vijayadashami.
The celebration of Dasara is in its 413th year this year.
From October 15 through October 24, 2023, Karnataka will celebrate Dasara.
One of India’s most auspicious festivals, “Dussehra,” symbolizing the triumph of virtue over evil, receives special attention in the state of Karnataka. Unlike other regions where it is a single-day observance, the regal city of Mysore in Karnataka dedicates ten days to the celebration, known as Mysore Dasara.
The city displays the magnificently dressed Elephants, Camels, and Horses strolling in a parade as it celebrates this important and largest Festival. During the holiday season, the city receives thousands of visitors each year.

Mysore was originally known as Mahishhur because it is believed that Goddess Chamundeshwari, a manifestation of Durga, defeated the demon Mahishasura, who had a buffalo’s head, there. Since then, there has been a lot of excitement surrounding the nine days of Mysore Dasara.
Significant Events of Mysore Dasara
Jambu Savari :- One of the most stunning activities of Mysore Dasara is the Jambu Savari, or elephant procession. Twelve trained elephants parade through the streets dressed in vibrant garb. On top of a golden mandap, one of them is carrying the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari. The Mysore Palace leads the procession to Bannimantap. Throughout the parade, you can see performances of traditional dances, musicals, and swordsmanship demonstrations.
Torchlight Parade :- A welcoming torchlight parade marks the conclusion of the Jambu Savari parade in the expansive Bannimantap grounds. This spectacular parade, which plays a significant role in Mysore Dasara and showcases the splendor of bygone eras while providing a window into the state’s magnificent past, is a must-see event.
Mysore Palace Lighting :- During Mysore Dasara, the Mysore Palace, serving as both the kingdom’s capital and its royal residence, adorns numerous lights. Visiting the palace is a must during the festivities in the city, as it is adorned with about 97,000 lights.
Doddakere Maidan Exhibition :-
The exhibition opens around Mysore Dasara and runs through December. Additionally, the displays elegantly showcase the city’s rich religious and cultural past. Additionally, the tourists can purchase cookware, clothing,

Dasara Wrestling :- An essential component of the Mysore Dasara festival has always been wrestling. An important event for promoting this traditional art is Nada Kusti. To win the titles, wrestlers from all over the country participate.
