OVERVIEW

Ladakh as a place is located amidst snowcapped mountains and valleys running beneath; it is an ideal place for an adventurer to explore the scenic landscape and monasteries. The best of its cultural heritage lies imbued within the walls and murals of monasteries. Once you visit these beautiful monasteries, you will not only be experiencing the history of it but it will also give you a sense of relief and peace. Interacting with locals and monks will help you in grasping the architectural and historical understanding of the place. On the third day, you’ll be visiting the famous Pangong lake located at the Indo-China border. This lake gained its popularity after the famous film, “3 Idiots “was shot here.

On the final day of your adventure, you’ll be driving to the world’s highest motorable road, the Khardung la i.e.18000ft above the sea level.

ITINERARY 

DAY WISE ITINERARY

Arrive at Leh airport, meet our representative and drive to your reserved accommodation. Check In to the hotel and get proper rest to acclimatize. Later, in the evening visit the Leh Market, Leh Palace and Shanti Stupa. O/N : Leh.

After breakfast, proceed to visit Shey Palace and Thiksey monastery, situated 17kms south of Leh, it is one of the most beautiful of all the monasteries in Leh. Thiksey monastery dates back to the 15th century while Shey monastery (it is a palace turned monastery) dates back to the 16th century and the royals used to reside here before the Dogra invasion in the 1830s.

The next venue for your visit will be Sindhu Ghat; the bank of river Indus. After this, you can also pay a visit to the “Hall of Fame Museum”, this was built by the Indian Army as an honor to all the martyrs of Kargil war in 1999 and if time remains, you can continue on the same route towards Pather Sahib and Magnetic Hill. Pather Sahib is a recently recognised as holy shrine of the Sikh community and the magnetic hill offers an optical illusion of being pulled towards the hill. O/N : Leh.

After early Breakfast, leave for Pangong Lake (14,500 ft) through Changla Pass 17,350 ft, 3rd highest motorable road in Ladakh. Enjoy the beauty of the high altitude Lake, surrounded by grey and brown mountains. Later, drive back to Leh by the same route. O/N : Leh.

After breakfast,drive towards Khardungla Pass, the World’s highest motorable road at 18380 feet. Savour the moment on the top, get some quick clicks and return to Leh. On arrival in Leh, enjoy some hot tea/ coffee/ lunch and rest for a while.  Rest of the day is at your disposal to explore the local market at one’s leisure. O/N: Leh

Early morning transfer to Leh airport to board flight back to destination.

After breakfast you will drive to Khardong la Pass, make sure you have put warm clothes and bring plenty of water along with you.

Khardong la(5359m):  It is a mountain pass on the Ladakh range, north of Leh. The road is one of the highest motorable roads. It also forms the gateway to the Nubra valley and Shayok valleys. It has an enormous strategic importance ,as it is used to transport supplies to the Siachen Glacier. There are spectacular views that greet you along the way, that of Leh city and the surrounding mountain ranges.

NOTES

Dos and Donts

  • On arrival please rest for 24 hrs, as you are traveling to high Altitude from Low, due to low oxygen.
  • Have plenty of drinking water or any kind of liquid (except alcohol)
  • Please cooperate with the localities, potters, guide, cook and driver as they are more helpful during the trek.
  • Transits between two destinations depend upon weather and road conditions.
  • Ladakh is a polythene-free region; make sure not to use any polythene when not necessary.
  • Do not contaminate the area by not disposing the waste properly.
  • Leave your denims behind – these are ill suited for treks. Snacks, colas, alcohol and personal food – No need to overburden yourself with food
  • Don’t get any equipment. We would carry Alpine tents and other equipment required for such treks.
  • Medicines of all kinds are usually available in local pharmacies with no prescription necessary. Check expiration dates.

Things you must carry:

  • Clothing (Heavy Warm Feather Jacket, Warm philes jacket, woolen and windproof gloves, Warm hat, woolen Socks, Warm Windproof Trouser, Sweaters etc.)
  • Trekking shoes (Water proof).
  • Sun glass with UV Protection
  • Torch with extra batteries.
  • Sun Screen lotion and cold cream.
  • Sleeping bag for – 25.
  • Light towel (should be thin, quick drying kind).
  • Chapstick or lip balm
  • Water bottles. The insulated water bottles are good but even normal water bottles will suffice.
  • Camera, memory-cards, batteries etc. (carry enough spare batteries. Electricity is not available on the slopes)
  • Personal toiletries/windcheater/Tissue rolls.
  • If available then a Pair of walking sticks.
  • An identification card (like Passport, driving license, voters ID card etc.), along with a photocopy.

  • Diamox (250mg) – for high altitude/high pressure.
  • Saridon – Headache.
  • Personal Medicines.

Avoid Acute Mountain Sickness

Acute mountain sickness can occur to anyone at an altitude above 10,000 feet from the sea level. The most common symptoms of the acute mountain sickness are headache disturbed sleep, loss of appetite, nausea, coughing, irregular breathing, breathlessness, lassitude and lack of concentration, Since Leh town is situated at an attitude of 11,500ft. above sea level, it is advisable to take the following precaution, so as to acclimatise your body properly.
