DAY WISE ITINERARY

Arrival to Madrid and meet and greet assistant at airport transfer to León and rest at hotel (337 km, 4h15 min approx.) Dinner and overnight at hotel in León

Breakfast at hotel transfer from León to Mansilla de Las Mulas, 24 minutes by bus.

Stage 1: 18,3 km Mansilla de Las Mulas – León
After the walk, short visit of Leon city, where monuments like basílica de San Isidoro, catedral de Santa María and iglesia y parador hostal de San Marcos can be visited. San Isidoro church is dated on the 9th century and it was devoted to San Juan Bautista, replacing a roman temple devoted to mercury.Dinner and overnight at hotel in León

Breakfast at hotel transfer to Villadangos del Paramo, 30 minutes by bus from León.

Stage 2: 17,5 km
Villadangos del Paramo – Santibañez de Valdeiglesias
for a century and a half, the León plateau will remain vacated until repopulation conducted by the kings of León, in the late 9th or early 10th century by small family units. Stage 3: 19 km Columbrianos – Villafranca del Bierzo

It is known that there were several hospices for pilgrims like Santiago, St. Lázaro, St.
Roque, St. Juan …
pilgrims, most of them French, congregated in this area and the new borough of “Villa- francorum” arose. During the centuries XIV and XV a new born group of craftsmen and guilds developed and grew up in the following years.Dinner and overnight at hotel in Villafranca del Bierzo

Stage 4: 22 km Sarria – Portomarin

The passage of the Camino de Santiago by the municipality led to the existence of numerous ecclesiastical buildings in these lands, like what happens with their medieval legacy that has left several examples of civil and military architecture.
On February 8th, 1946 the village of Portomarín was declared a historical and artistic ensemble. Portomarín was also listed as “Portumarini” in the year 792.
At codex Calixtinus Portomarín appears called as Pons Minea (bridge of Miño), and since then it was an important milestone of the Jacobean, being its peak especially in the centuries x to xii, when Portomarín obligatory step of the Camino de Santiago is considered one of the most important milestones, after passing up o Cebreiro.
The new Portomarín was created the mid-twentieth century in the highlands of Mount Cristo on the right bank of the river Miño. Dinner and overnight at hotel in Portomarin

Stage 5: 17 km Portomarin – Ligonde
After leaving Portomarín, the route advances towards Ligonde, where carlos V and Felipe II halted along their pilgrimage to Santiago. The Santiago church can also be visited, with its old graveyard for pilgrims.

Stage 6: 10 km
Lavacolla – Santiago de Compostela
the rout starts this day from Lavacolla, where pilgrims used to wash and make themselves presentable before entering the town of Compostela.
Then, the most expected moment arrives and pilgrims can have a short visit of Santiago de Compostela.Santiago de Compostela is a world heritage city, pilgrimage destination, cultural capital and example of historical, urban and environmental regeneration, which attracts thousands of visitors due to its singularity.
Santiago, the capital of Galicia, is also a centre of institutional services, with a privileged location on the Atlantic axis.Dinner and overnight at hotel in Santiago
